The SG-38 is a German primary training glider from 1938 that was built in large numbers by several manufacturers and by gliding clubs. This one was built by Petera, but its German registration is unknown. It was captured in 1945 by allied troops and was one of the almost 300 that ended up in France. Also its French registration is currently unknown. From 1947 most of them were broken-up or destroyed, and by 2018 only 9 remained in France. This one was restored in 2013 by the Espace Air Passion museum.

Built in 1942, it became WBLV-67 (Württemberg-Badischen Luftsportverband), later to D-8146 and flown until 1983, in 2004 to Werderaner Zweirad- und Technikmuseum in Werder, in 2012 to Gerhard Neumann Museum in Niederalteich, later to Deutsches Segelflugmuseum at Wasserkuppe. More than 12000 SG-38s were built by several manufacturers and by gliding clubs.

This is how the Luftwaffe aces learnt to fly. In this case the Schulgleiter (training glider) was towed to 1500 ft by a plane, but in the old days, as the expert commentator at Hahnweide explained, it rarely flew over treetop height because it was usually launched by a bunch of boys pulling on a bungee cord. Apparently construction of this airframe was begun by a Hitler Youth group in Leverkusen in 1944, but not completed until 1953.
