Among the fourteen YS-11's in storage at Honolulu in 1988 was this N121MP, a former Mandala Airlines aircraft (ex PK-RYY). It was bought by Mid Pacific Airlines in December 1987, but never entered service with them. Still carrying the Mandala tail colours and no titles, it remained in storage here until Nov 1989, when it was sold in Mexico as XA-RPF.

In September 1988 no less than fourteen NAMC YS-11's were stored at Honolulu. They were all owned by Mid Pacific Air, although only eleven actually carried their titles. This N103MP, named "Melanie Valencia", was one of them. This aircraft was sold to Mexico as XA-RQU in 1989, and withdrawn from use two years later. It ended up in storage at Durango, and had almost certainly been scrapped by 2010.

"Old Hickory Pacemaker" served Piedmont from new in 11.69 till sold to Airborne Express 12.80. Wfu at Wilmington, OH as N920AX in 3.96 and later broken up

Unlike the Simmons YS-11 in American Eagle colours just uploaded, N274P operated in their own livery, with small Republic Express titles on the door. Like so many of the US registered examples, this one was originally part of a large Piedmont fleet and was acquired from PBA in 2.85, being sold to SA Litoral SA as XA-ROV in 8.89. Imagine my amazement as I was driving along the Southend seafront one Saturday and saw a procession of four YS-11s land one after another, all the more surprising as I'd shot them nicely just two months before in Malta. The other three were ex-Piedmont and had their individual "Pacemaker" names suitably adapted. Although this one was previously Gabon Government's TR-KIA, they still gave it a Piedmont-style scheme and name, "Suez Canal Pacemaker". The four were on delivery to PBA. N924 was b/u at Hyannis, MA 7.93

Two transports of delight - this smart YS-11, acquired from ANA (JA8660) in 4.92, seen here on a maintenance visit, and my beloved Golf GTi Mk II. C5-GAB is still intact at Banjul, stored in very dusty condition; as for E967JAJ, I don't know
