Two days before the end of WWI, a lost German pilot landed this Fokker D.VII behind allied lines near Verdun. Sent to the USA as a war prize, it was eventually added to the Smithsonian's collection. The aircraft was restored in 1970 in the original markings of pilot Heinz von Beaulieu-Marconnay who landed it over fifty years earlier.

On November 9th 1918, two days before the Armistice of WWI this aircraft, piloted by Heinz von Beaulieu-Marconnay landed at an Allied airfield near Verdun in France. The aircraft was subsequently shipped to the USA where it was restored in the early 1970s. The code U-10 relates to the Regiment with which the pilot had served prior to joining the Air Force, The Tenth Uhlans. The aircraft is seen here displayed in the Smithsonian collection.
