Lancaster NF920 "Easy Elsie" was one of 37 Lancasters that took off from Lossiemouth to bomb German battleship "Tirpitz" in Northern Norway on 29 October 1944. During the unsuccesful strike, "Easy Elsie" was hit by German anti-aircraft fire and its crew directed it to Sweden, where it made a succesful landing in a soggy bog near the small town of Porjus. The Lancaster was damaged and set on fire by the crew, all of which survived the ordeal. The fire quickly went out and so the almost complete wreckage can still be found in exactly the same spot where it landed 80 years ago.
