Interesting overview of SFO in 1948, taken from the 1937 terminal building towards the old hangars with the little tower still perched on Hangar 1. Hangar 4 stood until 1999. There's a Grumman G-73 Mallard in front of Hangar 3, a Constellation, and a bunch of demobbed WWII training aircraft. We made a crop for the C-47, NC63440. No-frills carrier Southwest Airways began passenger flights between LA and San Francisco in 1946, with no less than eight stops along the way! Ex 43-15728, N63440 was later used to transport live turkeys in even less comfort no doubt - see other photo of this construction number.
