"Doc" under tow at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2024. This aircraft was one of 3,970 B-29s built and one of two currently flying. It was built at Wichita in 1945 with USAAF s/n 44-69972 but did not see combat in World War II. The B-29 was assigned to 4713th Radar Evaluation Squadron at Griffiss AFB in 1951 for radar calibration duty, which named its B-29s after Disney's Snow White characters. In 1955 it was assigned to target towing as a TB-29 before sitting in the Mojave Desert as a target for bomb training. Recovered, it has been painstakingly restored to pristine condition over 16 years. This photo is copyright © Arjun Sarup, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
