On display in the Boeing Aviation Hangar at Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. This "Gulfhawk II" flown by Maj. Alford Williams was fully aerobatic and capable of inverted flight for up to half an hour. Al Williams flew this aircraft at many airshows from 1936 to 1948. On a tour in 1938 to Europe, German World War I ace Ernst Udet flew the Gulfhawk over Germany. In exchange, Al Williams became the first American to fly the Bf-109. He encouraged private flying by writing weekly aviation newspaper columns, holding radio talks and displaying Gulfhawk II to aviation cadets during World War II.
