The first Lansen was delivered in 1955 and the aircraft type was flown until the 1990s. In total, Saab produced nearly 500 examples of the type, of which 287 were 'A' attack versions. It was an important part of the Swedish defense during the 1950s and 1960s. Unfortunately, a third of all Lansens were destroyed in various accidents, in which a total of 100 crew members and seven civilians died. The accidents were largely due to technical failures and the pilots being poorly trained in flying in the dark and bad weather. The Flygvapenmusem's example flew from 1957 with F 6 Karlsborg.
