One of the well-known sprayer Harpoons from Mesa Falcon Field, AZ, which was moved into storage in Italy around 2006. Originally taken on strength by the USN as 37419 in 1945 and wfu in 1953, it was restored by 2017 to represent MM80074 during its service with 87° Gruppo at Catania-Fontanarossa airport, featuring a turret from a Martin Baltimore and a fabricated nose gun pack. Note correct US registration is also carried. The Italian AF operated 22 ASW Harpoons between 1953 and 1959, although they wanted P-2 Neptunes. All were scrapped following their replacement with Grumman Trackers. This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
