Originally intended for the French Aéronavale, the FAA received its first Wildcats in July 1940. Renamed Martlet by the RN, the rugged fighter operated over Norway, from escort carriers during the Battle of the Atlantic, in the Western Desert, over Madagascar and in the Far East. The RN reverted to Wildcat in Jan. 1944. This ex-USN Wildcat is in the FAA paint scheme aboard HMS Tracker in 1944.
