A rather cluttered shot of a nonetheless great looking Sk37 Viggen trainer. This aircraft with serial 37805 is preserved inside the excellent F15 Flygmuseum in Söderhamn, where the history of this Swedish air force base comes to life. The museum is located in a former maintenance hangar of this former air base. One of the features of the tall Viggen was that it could fold its tail as seen in this picture, to fit in the maintenance hangars as well as underground hangars.

A unique design, the Saab 21 is a very rare find these days, with only three complete examples left. Designed with a push-propeller, it was equipped with a jet engine in 1947, becoming the first Swedish fighter jet. Serial 21311 was delivered with a push-propeller to the Swedish Air Force in 1948.

A unique design, the Saab 21 is a very rare find these days, with only three complete examples left. Designed with a push-propeller, it was equipped with a jet engine in 1947, becoming the first Swedish fighter jet. Serial 21311 was delivered with a push-propeller to the Swedish Air Force in 1948.

The Swedish Air Force has a name to uphold when it comes to special paintschemes. Saab 37 Viggens appeared in a variety of colours over the years. These bases were continually manned with a skeleton maintenance crew to keep them action ready. In case of war, the units would disperse to pre-assigned bases. This example is actually 28219, but painted to represent an F15 aircraft. Note the red squadron insignia on the wall. The insignia in the middle is that of 1. Division's technical company, 1. komp F15. The two others are those of 1. Divison. The black hand on left was used from the early 1960s until it was replaced by Attackix around 1978.
