Darmo airfield in Soerabaja (now Surabaya), East Java, Indonesia was active and used for various aviation undertakings in the early to mid-20th century. These included a flying club, military operations (Fokker DC.I) and early commercial services (Fokker F.VII). It was a stopover landing site for Douglas DC-2 PH-AJU "Uiver" during its London-Brisbane flight in 1934. A substantial two storey building existed and one edge of it can be seen to the right here. Other photo evidence shows it had a wind sock and an anemometer on the roof and a tall pylon beside it, possibly for floodlights. The shack with Shell B.P.M. on it was likely used for storing flammables. (B.P.M. = Bataafsche Petroleum Mattscappi).Photo from Victor Warners.
