This Mustang was TOC by the USAF as 44-84634 and then around 1955 by the Fuerza Aérea de la Guardia Nacional (Nicaragua) as GN 96. From 1992 until 2002 it underwent a full restoration to emerge as 'Big Beautiful Doll' and is pictured here as part of the ILA 2010 flying display. Alas, on 5th Feb. 2016 this Mustang crashed near Maricopa, AZ whilst performing aerobatics with the sad loss of the two on board.
Arriving on rw25 to take part in the static display at ILA 2010. Unfortunately this aircraft was destroyed in September 2017 whilst departing Hassan Djamouss airport (FTTJ), Chad. The jet struck a wall during take-off for unknown reasons and was consumed by fire. Fortunately, the two crewmen could eject safely.
Along with F-AZGE these two beautiful, venerable old props made for a compelling display at ILA 2010. I may be in a minority but they were much more interesting than fighters that all look the same or miniscule aerobatic aircraft.
