Built under USAAF contract as 43-49137 and delivered new to USN as R4D-6 Bureau Number 50781. Redesignated C-47J in 1962. Transferred to US Army circa 1966-67 retaining USN Bureau Number. On 8 March 1973 50781 crashed shortly after take off from Ft. Bragg killing all 14 persons aboard, including 11 members of the US Army Golden Knights parachute team.
