This Lightning was delivered to the Royal Saudi Air Force in 1969 and TOC as 53-671. This plane, along with along with 12-13 other low hour examples, were returned to BAe Warton in 1985, allocated UK serials and then sat outside for four years. Twelve airframes were sold privately but these sat in a shipping container for a further seven years before being rediscovered. ZF579 was in better condition than most and was rescued and moved to the Gatwick collection in 2000. The damage and decay inflicted meant that it required a long and exhaustive restoration to its original Saudi markings.
