Photographed crewing up during a 1 Squadron deployment in 1990, this particular Harrier T4A was written off in September the following year after suffering a birdstrike during a low level sortie near Great Driffield, Yorkshire. Both crewmembers, including a female UAS student, ejected although the student was badly burned when her parachute landed amidst the burning wreckage of the aircraft. She was subsequently rescued from the flames by the pilot who received a commendation for his bravery. Scanned from a print
