On display at RAFM Hendon. This Bf-110G carries the improved 91 MHz Telefunken FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN-2b switchable frequency AI radar connected to Hirschgeweih aerials. Max. detection range was 8 km, but min. was only 900 m. One staggered barrel of the upper 30 mm Mk 108 nose cannons is visible, as are lower two 20 mm MG 151/20 ports. Exhaust flame dampers are fitted to the 1475 hp DB 605B-1 nacelles and 300 L external tanks are fitted. D5+RL was on the strength of I./NJG 3 under Luftflotte Reich, which re-equipped by end of war with the faster Ju-88G. It was captured in Denmark in May 1945.

Of the 1146 German aircraft found on Danish airfields after the German surrender 37 were Bf-110 variants. This aircraft was recovered from Grove (now Karup) airfield after serving with 1/NJG 3 tasked with the night defence of Denmark and Northern Germany and has been fitted with a FuG220b Liechtenstein SN-2 radar. Due to the wonderful foresight of someone in the Air Ministry this aircraft was selected as early as May 46 for long term preservation and ended up at the RAF Museum in 1978.

This aircraft is in the Battle of Britain Hall of the RAF Museum. It is very dimly lit to prevent the aircraft paint fading. Much of the lighting is being replaced with energy efficient LED lights which create this eerie effect, somehow appropriate for this gem of a night-fighter aircraft. Canon 40D, 17-40 lens, 30 sec f8

It was very dark in this part of the museum - long exposure needed. The G-series Me-110 were night fighters; this one has FuG220b Liechtenstein SN-2 radar and was given Air Min serial AM34. Flown to Farnborough 1.8.45 and housed over the years at many locations in the UK before arriving at Hendon in 1980
