Intended for the Netherlands East Indies air force but diverted to Australia after the Japanese invasion of what is now Indonesia. The 17 Buffaloes that the RAAF received were kept iwell away from the frontline and in the case of A51-10, initially operated by 25 Squadron for the defence of Perth. The surviving aircraft, including A51-10, were returned in June 1943 to the USAAF, which had officially taken control of all ex Dutch aircraft in Australia. The Buffaloes were scrapped at Brisbane.
