Ex N5483V. Based around an unidentified P-51D fuselage (obtained from Tallmantz Aviation that had previously been used as a film prop in Hollywood), it's not really correct to call this a "North American" Mustang. It was built in 1988 by World Jet Inc. at Fort Lauderdale specifically for the Reno races, and incorporated a modified Griffon engine from an Avro Shackleton, and the P-51H tail unit from the stored P-51D N5483V, also named 'Precious Metal'.

Originally a North American P-51D (reportedly 44-73518), this airplane was totally rebuilt and is now a famous Air Racer. Please note the twin contra rotating props, an amazing power horse!

Fitted with the tail from a P-51H as part of modification into a racer. Tail removed and fitted to N6WJ which subsequently crashed. A standard P-51D was then fitted to N5483V. In 1990 it ditched in Galveston Bay. Salvaged, it was last reported a long-term restoration project.
