Varig was a previous operator of HR-LAJ (as PP-VBQ). At the time of the photo it was fitted with what appears to be a stepped windshield. Later photos of this aircraft show it with a standard C-46 windshield as does a photo of it in Varig service, so what the story is is not known. It is not the same cockpit glazing as the C-46E, a limited production model with a stepped windshield.
