The Arado Ar 95 was rejected as a shipborne scout for Germany's warships. Despite this V3 prototype's registration, it was probably a much better aircraft than the Heinkel He 114 which turned out to be a failure. The Ar 95 was offered for export, but this demonstration in Norway did not yield an order. Meanwhile the lighter, faster Ar 196 monoplane was accepted for the embarked scout role - a questionable decision because in this role, robustness and seaworthiness were far more important than performance.
