Intended for the Dutch East Indies navy but diverted to Australia. A48-1 used for training but later undertook coastal patrols in the vicinity of Sydney and the industrial cities of Newcastle and Wollongong. Its resemblance to the Nakajima A6M2-N floatplane made it vulnerable to friendly fire incidents. Photo shows A48-1 prior to the removal of the red centre disc from the roundel which was a general instruction to reduce confusion with Japanese markings.
