Loading stores for the forward area, New Guinea 1942. From a batch of new C-53s shipped to Brisbane in Nov 41 under "Project X" to support US forces in the Philippines. Pearl Harbor clarified the situation and the C-53s were used between Australia, Philippines and Netherlands East Indies before taken over by the Directorate of Air Transport as callsign VHCCC.The aircraft was transferred to the RAAF from May 43 to Apr 44. It tipped on its nose landing at Nadzab on 28 Feb 44. Repaired it was transferred to Qantas Empire Airways in Jul 44 until Apr 46, when it returned to the USAAF.
