The story has a happy ending as it changed hands in October 2021 and was then exported to the USA, taking up its original registration N7980U.

The ridge on the lower fuselage is probably a shroud covering pipes from fire extinguisher bottles behind the pressure bulkhead leading to the baggage pod. The requirement to have this was made mandatory because of the ValuJet DC-9 oxygen generator baggage compartment fire in 1996.
