The Starfighter was not very successful in American service but in September 1958, twelve F-104As of the 83rd FIS were sent to Taiwan during the Quemoy Crisis. They had to be flown in disassembled in C-124 Globemasters. 56-791 wore the name Vociferous Viking on the left side of the nose. 56-828 is also seen. Personnel of the 337th FIS took over in December.
