An-24s were a very rare sight in the smart colours of Yamal as they didn't generally venture out of northern Siberia. This one was delivered to Aeroflot's West Siberia division in 1974 and transferred to Aerokuznetsk in 1994 and Yamal by 2000. Active until 2015 but scrapped at Tyumen following year

A flight to the north of Yamal's main base at Salekhard airport in northern Siberia, well inside the Arctic Circle, afforded this splendid opportunity with a touch-down on a river bank. The pilot dropped us off, flew around a bit and posed on landing before picking up again

With all re-useable parts removed this aircraft will soon be broken up at Air Salvage International

Once the usable parts have been removed from an airliner at Air Salvage International. the fuselage is cut into three sections and reoved by road. Here the nose section is loaded and ready for removal

First registered to Aeroflot in 1977 and now in store with Yamal, whose attractive livery she first wore after acquisition in 1998

Currently stored intact at Kemble, this aircraft may be scrapped
