The Il-86 was designed to operate from airports with minimal wide-body ground handling equipment. Hence, airstairs were incorporated into the design to enable passengers to board and stow luggage directly before proceeding to the main cabin via internal stairs.

Alas, nowadays it is hard enough to see one Tu-154 in Western Europe. Luckily for me, on this day, the Pulkovo flight to LED was running with a delay with the result that these two beautiful a/c were in at the same time.
