The real 49-1236 shot down a MiG-15 over Korea on 17 December 1950 (when operated by 334th FIS), and later was shot down itself by a MiG-15 near Sinanju, North Korea on 24 October 1951. Another fake 49-1236, in exactly the same markings and colours, is preserved in the USAF Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB, Oh. The real identity of the latter aircraft is known (49-1067). The identity of the aircraft in the Seoul War Memorial Museum is not known (afaik).

In the past, this aircraft was on display at the Seoul War Museum in the more recent grey colourscheme, with its serial presented as 89-046 (there is a photo at Air History). This F-4C operated with 35th TFS/347th TFW from Yokota AB in Japan in 1970 in these colours and with these markings. After it was wfu in 1986 (having flown with the 123rd FIS/OrANG), it was sent to Suwon for BDRT (in August 1986). Later it was put on display at the Seoul War Museum after it had been magnificently restored to its 1970 colourscheme. This picture was taken just after sunset.

This Sabre is preserved at the military golf course adjacent to the airbase of Suwon. Its identity is a headache. USAF 50-625 is an F-86E (MSN 170-47) that was w/o in Japan on 20 January 1954. That aircraft does have a link with Korea as it was credited with shooting down two MiG-15s over Korea, on 30 November 1951 and on 14 January 1953. Perhaps is was this latter fact that was the reason to paint this serial on the aircraft?
