This F-4D arrived from Carswell (TX) at Selfridge (MI) with some mechanical problems in June 1988. As the 457th was nearing a transfer to F-4E, the USAF decided to leave the old F-4D at Selfridge, awaiting what to do. Eventually, the aircraft was used for Aircraft Battle Damage Repair training at Selfridge. Luckely, I pictured the Phantom before it was tortured. In May 1990, the F-4D was donated to the Freedom Memorial Park, Sterling Heights (MI) where it arrived in August 1990.

The Michigan Air National Guard was using the A-7D with the 107th Tactical Fighter squadron. In its final months within the unit, these pictures were made. The 107th operated many aircraft types since its establishment in 1927. The A-7 replaced the F-100D Super Sabre in 1979. They operated the Corsair up to 1989 after which they replaced it with the F-16. That one was assigned to the squadron up to 2008 and replaced by the A-10 Thunderbolt II.

Lovely old C-130A with a massive 107th TFS badge on the forward fuselage. The A-7 squadron, assigned to the 127th Tactical Fighter Wing of the Michigan Air National Guard used the Herc for logistical missions. The Hercules was preserved in the Selfridge Military Air Museum from 19 September 1989, only one month after this picture was made. Two days earlier, on 17 September 1989 the aircraft made its final operational flight.
