Back home at the Qantas maintenance base following a flight to commemorate the 60th annivesary of the first service by Trans Australia Airlines using this very aircraft! The original flight departed Melbourne/ RAAF Laverton for Sydney. Laverton had to be used as the sealed runways at Essendon were being constructed at the time.

Built at Long Beach, California, November 6. 1942. Flown by 46 & 21 Troop Carrier Squadron 5th Air force. Sold to the Department of Civil Aviation August 25, 1944. And operated by Australian National Airways as a freighter.

Tucked under VH-TAC the Australian Airlines A300 this shows the relevant size of the DC-3. I was lucky to get this shot as both aircraft were moved and TAA actually waited until I arrived to make the move. ( It helps to work for an airline :) )
