On display at Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum. The second-gen F9F-5 was the last of four Panther variants. It was powered by an uprated P&W J48-P-6A or -8 turbojet. The type had a lengthened fuselage ahead of the wing root and a taller tail. The air intakes were reshaped, with a wing fence added. The perforated speed brake and Aero 14A racks for 250-lb AN-M57 bombs or 5-in. rockets can be seen. A total of 616 were built, plus some F9F-4s brought up to -5 standard. Tail code 'L' represents CVG-7, which flew F9F-2s off CV-31 USS Bonne Homme Richard against Sui-ho Dam in the Korean War.
