First flown in August 1953 as an MR.2 and operated by 204, 269, 210, 38 and 205 Sqdns, going back into service with 8 Sqdn following AEW.2 conversion in 1972. Wfu in 1981 and used for crash rescue training at St Mawgan. Refurbished for display in MR.2 configuration as gate guard there in 1989 (my 2011 photo). In 2015 the MoD put the aircraft up for disposal and amid fears of scrapping, a private group crowdfunded its purchase as a charity, dismantled the aircraft and stored it near the site of the Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre (which has since sadly met its demise) at Newquay This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
