First prototype of Dassault Mirage IIIV, which hovered for the first time on 12 February 1965. Mirage III V is still to this day, the fastest VTOL in the world and the only one to have reached Mach 2 (but it was never able to take off vertically and successfully achieve supersonic flight during the same flight). The project was abandoned in May 1966 due to high costs and design complexity, although testing continued until second prototype crash (November 28, 1966).
