First flown in October 1985 and delivered to the Soviet AF in Aeroflot colours, this ill-fated Ruslan was marked as "08 black" by 1989. The aircraft was w/o on 6th December 1997 on take off from Irkutsk-2 bound for Cam Ranh via Vladivostok (with 2 Su-27s for the Vietnamese AF on board) when three engines lost power and flamed out three seconds after lift-off. It crashed into a residential complex close to the airfield with predictably tragic results This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
