On display on the flight deck of museum ship CVS-11 USS Intrepid. The AV-8C was an interim measure to bridge the gap between the AV-8A and the completely new AV-8B. The aircraft was an upgrade of 47 AV-8As under the conversion-in-lieu-of-procurement (CILOP) programme. The strake under the fuselage and RWRs on the wings of this AV-8C are visible. The aircraft is painted in the markings of VMA-231 "Ace of Spades" to represent an AV-8A, which the unit flew for the last time on 2 Aug 1985 before transitioning to the AV-8B Harrier II on 19 Sep 1985. The unit did not fly the AV-8C. This photo is copyright © Arjun Sarup, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
