Ex Dutch East Indies air force. One of six taken on charge by the RAAF after being evacuated to Australia following the 1942 Japanese invasion of the Dutch East Indies. Used as transports between Australia and Papua New Guinea. They were difficult to maintain and unserviceable frequently. In 1944, the five survivors - one burned at its mooring because of an electrical fault - were flown to Lake Boga for storage. All were scrapped in 1945. The forward fuselage of an unknown one was saved when it became a houseboat. Photo from: State Library of Victoria This photo was added on 20 July 2025, and has since been viewed 180 times. |
