Originally delivered to the USAAF as C-53 42-6483 in May 1942. Became NC86584 on January 1946 and kept that registration for the rest of its life, flying with several different airlines. In the 1950s it was initially fitted with Wright C9HD engines by Aerodex, which were later replaced by Wright Cyclone GR1820G-202A engines (making this a DC-3-G202A). The aircraft was acquired by Aero Specialists Inc. (parent company of Skydive Arizona) in 1987 and registered to them on 8 September 1987. It was still in their inventory (but out of use) when this photo was taken, 38 years later. This photo is copyright © Aad van der Voet, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
