Floats removed during the current AirSpace reorganisation upheaval. Duxford's Sunderland was built by Short Brothers at Rochester as the first production Mk V. The primary improvement over the Mk III was the replacement of the 965hp Bristol Pegasus engines by 1,200hp Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasps. After postwar Aeronavale service, the aircraft became badly derelict and a massive restoration effort by Duxford Aviation Society volunteers from 1976 and through the 1980s brought it back to the superb condition in which it is now on show This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
