Mustang IIIs covered both the P-51B and P-51C variants and FX889 is a P-51B. It had served with 122 Sqn. It appears to be at Boscombe Down in connection with testing of the Malcolm Hood canopy developed in the UK and retrospectively fitted to RAF and USAAF P-51Bs and P-51Cs. FX889 went on to serve with 315 (Polish) Sqn. Struck off charge in 1947. Photo from: Imperial War Museums
