This P-51 was assigned to the 318th Fighter Squadron in 1944, part of the 'Checkertail Clan' of the 325th Fighter Group, hence the colours in which it now flies. It is no stranger to Italy, having been based at Lesina on Italy's southern Adriatic coast. The unit flew escort missions for bombers attacking Romanian, German, Austrian, Czechoslovak and Hungarian oil and synthetic fuel processing facilities. Operated with the MN ANG post-war and then registered N7710C and CF-FUZ. Now German-based.
