At the time of the photo operated by 12 Squadron which had been deployed to Darwin. The Wirraway was then a general purpose aircraft with a combat role and were replaced by Vultee Vengeances in October 1942. By then A20-7 was being used as a trainer in southern New South Wales. It crashed during a non-operational night patrol near the town of The Rock on June 12, 1945, killing the pilot.
