Taxiing out for its display at Duxford Autumn Airshow 2013. Built to US Navy requirements, the Bearcat was too late to see combat in the Pacific War. Powered by a P&W R-2800 Double Wasp similar to the Hellcat, it was smaller and lighter, giving it a faster climb. The type equipped USN squadrons, though only saw combat in Indochina as recce and napalm equipped ground-attack 'Beercats' of ten Groupes of l'Armée de l'Air and with the VNAF. This ex-USN recce F8F-2P joined The Fighter Collection in 1981. This photo is copyright © Arjun Sarup, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
