The SE-5 in its original production form was fitted with a tall windscreen and some had clear side panels like A8910. The reason was to protect the pilot who sat higher in SE-5s than other fighters. This was done to improve vision from the cockpit. Frontline pilots took an instant dislike to both, so pilot's seats were lowered and a small rectangular windscreen fitted.
