Built as an F-5G-6-LO and formerly 44-53186 with the USAAF. Modified for aerial survey work in 1946 and here probably in the hands of Mike Hurd Mapping Co. After restoration by David Tallichet of Hollywood fame it was sold to UK collector Doug Arnold in 1988, reportedly with marks G-MURU reserved but never worn. Instead it flew in the UK as N505MH which it acquired after the above survey contract. Supposedly this is the Lightning which was on display at the former Evergreen Vintage Aircraft at McMinnville/OR, still carrying N505MH, until about 2015. In 2018 it was under restoration at New Smyrna Beach, FL for the Collings Foundation. This photo was added on 26 September 2021, and has since been viewed 682 times. |
