This was the 1,600th 727 off the line, delivered to Air Canada April 20, 1980. In 1988, the airline would sign a letter of intent to sell Federal Express 28 of the 39 strong 727-200 fleet beginning in 1990. C-GAAY changed hands August 28, 1992, becoming N272FE and was converted to a freighter. FedEx cancelled the registration November 28, 2007 after donating the aircraft to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Department of Public Safety Fire Training Center.
