The Fairey Fox competed with the Hawker Hart family and equipped only one RAF squadron, No 12, from 1926 until 1931. Two surplus Foxes took part in the London to Melbourne Air Race and this one, formerly J7950, was flown by Roy Parer, a veteran of the 1919 England to Australia contest. By the time the winning DH.88 Comet finished, Parer and his navigator were only in Paris, but they eventually arrived in Melbourne on 13 February 1935. The aircraft was sold as VH-UTR.
