After having visited the aviation exposition ILA Frankfurt in 1909, a group of 14 to 16 year old grammar school pupils became so enthusiastic that they founded the Flug-Sport-Vereinigung Darmstadt on 25-Aug-1909. They started to build several types of gliders and test flying them. On 22-Jul-1912 Hans Gutermuth flew their FSV-10 a distance of 840m in 1 min 50 sec at the Wasserkuppe, which at that time was a new glider world record. The photo shows the replica built by the Deutsches Segelflugmuseum. This photo is copyright © Peter Vercruijsse, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
