QF-4S from Pt Mugu sits in the 2001 Van Nuys static line

This former US Marine Corps F-4N was stored at AMARC with inventory code 8F120 from September 1983 to March 1993. The Phantom was made airworthy again at Davis Monthan and was flown to Naval Air Depot Cherry Point (NC) in April 1993. Here is was converted to QF-4N 'EW platform'. The aircraft was modified with Electronic Warfare systems (this can be recognized by the vertical stabilo modifications), so it was able to fully evaluate fighters and weapons flown and fired against it. It was, most probably, shot down over the Pacific Missile Test Range by July 2004.

This NP-3D was withdrawn from use in March 2006. In that month it was flown over to nearby Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake (CA) and assigned to the stored fleet of the Weapons Survivability Laboratory. Not a very good sign, as it will be used then as a range target and being destroyed by jet fighter attacks, or it is being destroyed by experimental explosives.

Back in 1999, this so-called Bill Board Orion, was assigned to the Naval Weapons Test Squadron Point Mugu. The NP-3D was withdrawn from use in April 2006 and transferred to the storage depot of AMARG.
