First flight 1996. The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Stuttgart participated in the 1996 Berblinger Prize competition, sponsored by the city of Ulm, with the Icaré II. The goal was to develop an electrically powered motor glider capable of maintaining horizontal flight solely on solar energy. On July 7, 1996, the project won the prize for the most efficient solar-powered aircraft.
