A94-922 was used during testing the de Havilland Blue Jay missile. The Blue Jay was ultimately developed as the Firestreak. The trials were not without danger. A DH technician was killed when a Blue Jay fitted to a Sabre accidentally fired in a hangar at Woomera. Evetts Field is a more remote satellite airfield for Woomera. The RAAF, despite its role in the Blue Jay/Firestreak trials, never adopted the British missile, opting instead for the Sidewinder. A94-922 was returned to 81 Wing.
